NCAA Information

NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE INFORMATION

The following information is designed to assist the college-bound student who is interested in participating in athletics at the college level. The NCAA, or National Collegiate Athletic Association, serves as the athletics governing body for more than 1300 colleges, universities, conferences, and organizations. The NCAA is committed to the student-athlete and to governing competition in a fair, safe, inclusive, and sportsmanlike manner. Their membership includes Division I, II and III member schools, and one of the differences among the three divisions is that colleges and universities in Division I and II may offer athletic scholarships, while Division III members may not.

All prospective student-athletes planning on entering a collegiate institution and desiring to play NCAA Division I or II intercollegiate athletics including “walk-ons” must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/. The NCAA Eligibility Center certifies the academic and amateur credentials of all college-bound student-athletes who wish to compete in NCAA Division I or II athletics.

If you would like general information, please visit their home page at www.ncaa.org and click on “Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete” which will link you to the necessary information. As a prospective student-athlete at a Division I or II institution, you have certain academic requirements that must be met before you may participate. The approved Bethel High School courses can also be found at www.ncaa.org (CEEB code 373255). Information concerning who needs to register with the Eligibility Center and what documents should be submitted can be found at www.ncaa.org, Student Athletes, NCAA Eligibility Center. Playing sports for an NCAA school is not the only option. Students can explore additional opportunities through the National Intercollegiate Athletics Association (NAIA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) .

NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA have very specific course requirements for student-athletes. Many of these course requirements need to be completed by the end of the student’s junior year. Ultimately, it is a family's responsibility to look into these requirements for their student. Once a student profile is created, please contact the Athletic Director and the school counselor to ensure they know a profile has been created.
